The PC BSC NURSING PROGRAMME is a two -year full time program comprising 2 years , which prepares a student to become a registered nurse qualified to practice in a variety of settings in either public/ government or private healthcare settings. Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery Nursing Certificate holders can gain additional qualification as graduate nurses .

AIMS

  • Post Basic B.Sc. degree in Nursing is a broad based education aimed to build upon the skills and competencies acquired at the diploma in nursing level.
  • It is specifically directed to the upgrading of critical thinking skills, competencies and standards required for practice of professional nursing and midwifery as envisaged in National Health Policy The course is intended to enable the graduates:
  • Assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives at basic level in providing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services.
  • Make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function in the hospital, community nursing services, and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor, and manager in clinical/public health settings.

Objectives

On completion of Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing degree course the graduates will be able to:

  • Assess health status, identify nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients / clients that contribute to the health of individuals, families and communities.
  • Demonstrate competency in techniques of nursing based on concepts and principles from selected areas of nursing, physical, biological and behavioral sciences.
  • Participate as members of health team in the promotive, preventive, curative and restorative healthcare delivery system of the country.
  • Demonstrate skills in communication and interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and decision-making abilities in various situations.
  • Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in community health settings.
  • Demonstrate managerial skills in community health settings.
  • Practice ethical values in their personal and professional life.
  • Participate in research activities and utilize research findings in improving nursing practice.
  • Recognise the need for continued learning for their personal and professional development.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A candidate seeking admission must hold a diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM)
  • A candidate seeking admission must be a registered nurse.
  • A candidate seeking admission must have a minimum of two years experience in a hospital or community health nursing.
  • A candidate seeking admission must have passed pre university examination in arts/science/commerce conducted by Department of Pre University Education, Karnataka State or its equivalent recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
  • A candidate seeking admission must have working knowledge of English
  • A candidate seeking admission must be medically fit.
  • A candidate seeking admission must have good personal and professional record.
  • No candidate who is above 48 years of age on 31st December of the year of admission shall be eligible.
  • The course of study shall be for two academic years from the date of commencement of term notified by the university.
  • Medium of Instruction English shall be the medium for the course as well as for the examination.
